Web design and AI for San Marcos businesses.

Carlsbad Web & AI builds custom websites and Ada AI assistants for businesses in San Marcos, California — Restaurant Row, the university district, Twin Oaks Valley, and the San Marcos Boulevard corridor. We are twenty minutes west in Carlsbad, and we have already built a concept site for a San Marcos pub. Builds start at $649 plus $39 monthly.

01 — Who this is for

Built for these people.

  • Restaurant Row operators competing on the same half mile as a dozen others
  • Pubs, taprooms, and venues with a rotating tap list or a calendar that is stale by Tuesday
  • Trades and home services covering San Marcos, Escondido, and the inland tracts
  • Practices and professional services serving families and two student populations at once

02 — What it sounds like

If you have said one of these, you are in the right place.

  • Everyone on Restaurant Row looks identical in search results, including us.

  • The events calendar is a PDF and nobody has replaced it since spring.

  • Students find us, then cannot tell what time we close tonight.

  • We rank fine for our name and nowhere at all for what we do.

03 — What you get

The same build, wherever you are.

  • 01

A custom design, drawn for the business

No template, no page builder, no theme with your logo dropped into it. Layouts are drawn for what you sell and who walks in.

  • 02

    A hand-built Next.js site on Vercel

Server-rendered, so a phone on a bad connection in a parking lot gets the page, not a loading spinner.

  • 03

    Up to five core pages

Home, the thing you actually sell, proof, about, contact. Structured for how people read before they call.

  • 04

A CMS you can edit yourself

Change hours, prices, and a phone number without emailing us. Holiday hours are not a support ticket.

  • 05

    Local structured data

LocalBusiness schema with your real address, hours, and service area, so search engines and assistants get it from the source.

  • 06

    Mobile, keyboard, and screen-reader testing

Before launch, on real devices. Every page has to work with a keyboard alone.

  • 07

    Ada, if you want her

The AI assistant that answers questions on your site at 11pm and hands you the transcript. Optional, $499 to build, then $49 a month, never bolted on by surprise.

04 — Getting found in San Marcos

What being findable here actually takes.

  1. 01

A calendar and a menu are data, not pages

In a corridor where every business is a restaurant, the ones that win are the ones whose tonight is legible from search. A tap list, a menu, and an events calendar held as real content can be marked up, indexed, and quoted. A PDF and a Facebook post cannot.

  2. 02

    Two campuses, two search behaviours

Students search on phones, late, with intent that expires in an hour. Residents search earlier and further ahead. Hours, distance, price, and whether you are open right now belong above the fold, not on an about page.

  3. 03

One page per service, not one page listing nine

For trades and professional services this is the whole game inland. A single page naming nine services ranks for none of them. Each real service gets its own page, in the words a San Marcos customer actually types.

  4. 04

Named geography where it is true

San Marcos, Escondido, Vista, and the university district appear in the service area, the directions, and the districts you genuinely cover — and nowhere else. Stuffed city lists are a penalty, not a strategy.

  • The Churchill's Pub & Grille concept demo homepage, with a vintage newsreel-style hero

    Concept demo

    Churchill's Pub & Grille

    Concept demo - neighborhood pub

An unsolicited concept demo for a San Marcos pub: a 60-plus tap board with a detail view for every pour, an events calendar, a reservation flow that texts the owner with no backend, and an AI concierge.

Self-directed concept demo. Not commissioned, not reviewed by the business, and not a client.

06 How it runs

Four steps, in this order.

  1. Step 01

    Audit and brief

We look at your site, your map listing, and the competitors outranking you, and send the findings in writing before anyone designs anything. Free, and yours whether or not you hire us.

  2. Step 02

    Design

Layouts for the pages that matter, in your colours and your type. Two rounds of revisions, then it locks and we build.

  3. Step 03

    Build

Hand-coded in Next.js. Content goes into a CMS you can edit, and we test on real phones and with a keyboard before you see it.

  4. Step 04

    Launch and hand over

We point the domain, watch it for a week, and hand you the keys. You own the code and the accounts. Leaving is a repo transfer, not a negotiation.

07 — Scope and price

Same prices. No zip-code markup.

A five-page custom site is from $649 to build and $39 a month to host, maintain, and keep updated. Adding Ada, the AI assistant, makes it from $949 to build, then $79 a month. Ada on an existing site is $499 to build, then $49 a month. A live menu, tap list, or events calendar is inside the five pages; a full booking or ordering system is quoted before we start.

Anything outside that gets quoted in writing before we start, not discovered halfway through. Every plan and every number is published.

08 — Questions

Before you ask.

The Churchill's site on this page — is that a real client?
No, and it is labelled as a concept demo everywhere it appears. Churchill's is a San Marcos pub; we built the site unprompted as an exercise in treating a tap list and an events calendar as live content instead of a printed board. It was not commissioned, it was not reviewed by the business, and they are not a client. It is here because it is a real San Marcos build you can open and judge, not because it implies a relationship.
Can the menu or tap list update itself?
It updates from a CMS you control, in seconds, from a phone behind the bar — that is the point of building it as data. Automatic syncing from a POS or a distributor feed is possible but is an integration, so it gets scoped and quoted before we start.
We are inland. Does that hurt us against coastal businesses in search?
For map results, proximity is to the person searching, not to the coast, so competing inland is not a disadvantage — you are being compared against other San Marcos businesses. What does hurt is a thin profile and a site with no service pages, and both of those are fixable.
Who owns the site when it is done?
You do. The code, the domain, the analytics, and the hosting account are all in your name, and the repository transfers to you on request. The monthly fee buys hosting and maintenance, not custody of your website.

09 — Start with the audit

Find out what is actually broken.

Send one San Marcos URL and we will tell you the five things costing you the most, in writing, whether or not you hire us. We reply within two business days.
