This is an unsolicited concept demo. OMBAC Rugby did not commission, review, or endorse it, and the storylines inside it are illustrative. It exists to show the standard of build, nothing else.
Our exact role
Designed and built the entire concept demo. This was self-directed work — the club did not commission it, has not reviewed it, and is not a client.
The context
Old Mission Beach Athletic Club is a San Diego rugby club with USA Eagles alumni in its history. Carlsbad Web & AI built this concept demo unprompted, using publicly available club information. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the club. The point was to see what a professional-grade match-day site looks like on an amateur club's operating reality.
Where it started
Amateur club sites tend to be a fixture list pasted into a page builder and updated when someone remembers. Results, squad news, and kit sales end up living in three different places — usually a social group, a spreadsheet, and a form.
The constraint
A club run by volunteers cannot maintain a site that needs a developer, and cannot justify an e-commerce platform to sell a few dozen shirts a season. The demo had to look like a professional club and still be maintainable by whoever happens to have the password.
Decisions made
- 01Designed it as a match-day site first — the Match Centre and fixtures sit above club history, because that is what a supporter opens on a Saturday.
- 02Drove fixtures, results, and the honours wall from structured data, so a volunteer edits a row instead of a layout.
- 03Built the club shop and its bag against the same data source, so kit is another content type rather than a second platform to run.
- 04Generated the kit imagery rather than using photographs the club owns, so an unsolicited demo borrows nothing that is not ours.
- 05Scoped the club assistant to joining, training times, and fixtures — the three things a prospective player actually asks.

- News items covering a head-coach appointment and a marquee signing — illustrative demo storylines, not verified club announcements.
- An honours and USA Eagles alumni wall drawn from publicly available club history.
- A club shop with a working bag and kit detail views.
- An in-page club assistant scoped to joining, training, and fixtures.
- A dark pro-club design system with a full-bleed match-day hero.

Technical result
- Fixtures, results, honours, and shop items all read from structured data in the page — a volunteer edits a row, not a template.
- The shop bag runs entirely client-side with no checkout provider wired in; it is a concept, not a live store.
- Kit imagery is generated rather than taken from the club, so the demo carries no borrowed photography.
- Ships as a single self-contained static page plus assets.
Business result
Live, inspectable build. Measured business outcome pending client approval.
