Client workCoastal boutique - Shopify OS 2.02026

The Gilded Fisherman

An Old Florida boutique on Anna Maria Island: editorial navy-and-gilt layouts, four named departments, and a page for every one-of-a-kind piece — shipped as a custom Shopify theme the owner runs herself.

The Gilded Fisherman homepage — navy and antique gilt editorial layout for a coastal boutique

Our exact role

Designed and built the site end to end, then ported the finished design into a custom Shopify OS 2.0 theme the owner updates herself.

The context

The Gilded Fisherman is a curated coastal boutique at 505 Pine Ave on Anna Maria Island, Florida, open Tuesday through Saturday. The owner buys handpicked furniture, art, nautical decor, and collected pieces, and needed a storefront that reads the way the shop reads — old-world fishing town, a life well traveled — rather than a template with a beach photo dropped in.

Where it started

A physical shop with a following built on foot traffic and Instagram, and no storefront of her own online. Inventory lived in a camera roll and in her head, and nearly every piece is a single unit — the one-of-a-kind problem most retail templates are designed to ignore.

The constraint

One-of-a-kind stock breaks the usual e-commerce assumptions: no restock, no size runs, no evergreen product page. And the owner had to be able to add a piece, shoot it, and publish it herself between customers, without calling a developer or learning a page builder.

Decisions made

  1. 01Designed the shop as an editorial catalogue rather than a grid of SKUs, so a single antique reads like a find instead of a line item.
  2. 02Grouped merchandise into four named departments — The Bar Cart, Candlelight, The Library Shelf, The Table — so browsing follows how she actually merchandises the store.
  3. 03Drew the fish-hook brand mark as inline SVG that draws itself on load, so the identity ships as markup instead of an image file.
  4. 04Built and proved the design as a hand-coded build first, then ported it to Shopify once the look was settled rather than fighting a theme editor during design.
  5. 05Held the palette to navy and antique gilt with real photography, so the product does the selling.

What we built

  • A homepage organized around four named departments, with a seasonal-arrivals carousel.
  • The Collection — a full catalogue with a tailored detail page for every piece.
  • Our Story, Journal, and Visit pages, plus a contact path and a map link to the Pine Ave shop.
  • A custom Shopify OS 2.0 theme with section-based templates the owner edits in the admin.
  • An Instagram feed on the homepage and a concierge chat widget in the footer.

Stack

  • Shopify OS 2.0
  • Liquid
  • Custom Shopify theme
  • Inline SVG brand mark
  • WebP imagery on Shopify's CDN
  • Cloudflare

Technical result

  • Owner-editable Shopify OS 2.0 theme — she adds pieces, photos, and copy with no developer in the loop.
  • Section-based templates, so page composition is rearranged in the Shopify admin rather than in code.
  • A tailored product page per piece across the catalogue, served as WebP from Shopify's image CDN.
  • Runs on Shopify behind Cloudflare, so hosting and PCI scope stay on the platform rather than on us.

Business result

Live, inspectable build. Measured business outcome pending client approval.
