Mother's Day Is Coming (You've Got This)

A gift display in the shop: cut-glass decanters, a crystal cocktail shaker and fisherman's hand scrub tubes

Mother's Day is this Sunday, and every year somebody comes flying through the door on Saturday at 4:45 looking for a miracle. I love that person. But do yourself a favor this year and come in a few days early.

My whole theory on gifts is that a good one should still be in the house ten years from now. Flowers are gone by Thursday. A brass compass for her desk, the cloth books stamped with the island's coordinates, good linen towels she will actually put out. Those stay.

We have been setting aside our favorites all week. There is a shelf of small things under fifty dollars that wrap up beautifully, and a few bigger pieces for the mom who has been dropping hints. If you are stuck, describe her to me and I will find it. That is genuinely my favorite part of this job.

We wrap everything in the back at no charge, navy ribbon of course. Open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 to 5, at 505 Pine Ave. Happy Mother's Day to all the moms of Anna Maria.
