From beach friendships in the 1950s to national titles. The story of a San Diego rugby institution.
Our historyOMBAC Rugby's story isn't just about tackles, tries, and trophies. It's a tale of community and the unwavering spirit of Old Mission Beach woven into the fabric of American rugby.
The seeds were sown on the beaches of Old Mission Beach, where friendships laid the foundation for a future athletic club. In 1954, the Old Mission Beach Athletic Club was born, spanning volleyball, surfing, and eventually rugby.
In 1966, fueled by San Diego State rugby alumni, OMBAC Rugby emerged as a distinct side within the club. Two years later, in 1968, they charged into first-division competition and showed their tenacity.
OMBAC became one of the most feared sides in American rugby, stacking up National Division I Fifteens titles through two decades and taking national Sevens crowns along the way.
OMBAC kept contending in the professional era: a run of national Sevens titles, the 2006 Rugby Super League title, and the 2010 USA Division III national championship, with a steady presence in the Pacific Rugby Premiership.
OMBAC is proud to welcome Alex "Corbs" Corbisiero as Head Coach. The former England and British & Irish Lions prop brings world-class experience to Robb Field, having competed and coached at the very top of the game.
